The aim of the course is to familiarise the students with literary studies: its terminology, goals, development and methodology. The course also explains relations between contemporary literary studies and other areas of reflection in the humanities (e.g., philosophy, aesthetics, linguistics, anthropology, psychology and semiotics). The focus in the lectures is on basic terms, distinctions and classifications. The goal of discussion classes is to deepen students’ knowledge of selected terminology in literary theory through the analysis of source texts and application of these texts and theoretical tools to interpretation of literary works.
