The lecture is divided into two parts. In the first one we present a brief description of the continuous wavelet transform and its use to the analysis and the synthesis of sound signals. In the second part we demonstrate how to construct orthonormal bases of wavelets. Examples of wavelets will be discussed in connection with their use to the data compression in digital transmissions.
