The aim of the course is to discuss major processes responsible for the formation of the British nation. A special emphasis is put on the history of British monarchy and formation of constitutional monarchy from the perspective of conflicts between monarchy and Parliament. The course includes discussion of such aspects of British history as the evolution of British national identity and Great Britain and her position in the world in the contexts of international relations. Students are expected to develop skills necessary for critical rereadings of historical accounts. Students learn how to see history and its role in interdisciplinary contexts and with relation with other disciplines (cultural studies, media studies, etc).
