The course focuses on diverse aspects of the ever
the growing presence of chemical products and chemical processes and
technologies in our society. Topics range from the short introduction
to basic technological processes, like ammonia and sulfuric acid
production, through the environmental impact of the chemical industry, energy
production e.g. burning of fossil fuel, purification of contaminated
water, efforts to prevent the ozone layer depletion process, new forms
of energy storage, to development and application of quantitative
diagnostic medical tests performed on a waxed paper. Students read and
analyze the assigned material and watch videos. Their active
participation includes in class discussions, their own presentations
prepared in electronic form etc. The final grades will be based on the
written test, but in class activity and the presentation will also be
taken into account.
